How To Use A Teleprompter?

teleprompterMaybe you are asking yourself how to use a teleprompter? A teleprompter is simply referred to as a prompter which is a device that shows a prewritten words which can be scrolled by the viewer to glance through a speech while not using any paper notes.

There are 3 main types of Teleprompters:

The first type is called presidential style teleprompter. How to use a teleprompter is when you are into public speaking. It is called presidential because this is usually seen when the president is speaking in public. When you are speaking, usually there are two Teleprompters placed on each side of the speaker. This arrangement allows you to pan and scan the audience at the same time reading a speech. The Teleprompters are placed at an angle to you while the LCD display on the ground is pointing up.

The LCD will then beam a reversed pre-written speech that will bounce off to the angled glass towards your eyes. Sometimes there is a limitation when using this type of teleprompter especially when placing a teleprompter rig is not possible. When this happens usually the LCD display is placed higher for you to read. When the pre-written text is received it is no longer reversed. There are companies that you can find on the internet that supply teleprompter services.

The second type is called “through the lens” teleprompter. How to use a teleprompter is when somebody who needs to speak in front of a video camera. With this teleprompter the speaker’s eye can maintain direct contact with the video camera in front. Without this arrangement, the eyes of the speaker have the probability that it might wander downwards to find for paper notes. Even though the movement is not very obvious it might be off-putting to some audience. This teleprompter has the same principle used by presidential-type teleprompter.

There is an LCD display pointing up towards a piece of glass that is angled at 45 degrees. This piece of glass is over the camera lens. It is a special glass to block any potential light “leaks” coming from the LCD that might bounce off to the camera sensor. How to use a teleprompter is when presidential-type teleprompter is not applicable. There are professional teleprompter operators that you hire when you need this kind of services.

The third type is not a pure teleprompter but merely copy the main function of a teleprompter. Although this is not completely perfect because your eyes cannot focus on the camera, but then again it still signifies a big development over paper notes. Most laptops at the moment have built -in web cameras on top of the LCD screens. It is possible to utilize the LCD to transmit your prewritten speech while you are recording a video, or you might be talking to someone through the webcam.

It is important to note that when you are planning to talk to someone over a webcam there are no so-called “second takes”. How to use a teleprompter is to get your speech written down, have it proofread, and then spell checked for any errors before giving your speech. In this way, it is a lot easier and your speech delivery is like a professional.
